KDOL Retreat center has beautiful small cabins which can be accommodate couples or singles. There are also rooms in the main building, which is wood heated. Melanie and I stayed in the cabins last March, and they were warm and cozy, dry and well cared for. There is an expectation that you clean your room at the end of the stay and change the linen and towels. There are clear, well cared for outhouses, no toilets on site.
KDOL is a Tibetan Buddhist Retreat Center. For more information about them, click here. There is excellent information
on what to bring, and transportation to and from the site. Unless you hear otherwise, please direct all transportation requests through me.
THE SETTING AND LOCATION:
I've attached a few photos of the location when I was up there with Melanie last March. It is close to the top of Mount
Tuam, and faces towards Duncan on Vancouver Island. It is a breathtaking with pristine and sweet energy, perfect for the kind of practices we will be doing.
Mount Tuam is on the South end of Salt Spring Island, and requires travel over a dirt road with areas of potholes. It's about 30 minutes from Fulford Harbor on Salt Spring. Although most of the road can be driven with a regular vehicle if you are careful, a 4x4 is preferable. We will look into car pooling and I will also be confirming transportation with Judith, who has
said she will offer transportation from Fulford Harbor. If you are coming from Victoria, you can leave your vehicle in Swartz Bay and just hop on the ferry. I'll get this information from you when you register. You can also arrive on Salt Spring from Nanaimo, heading south to Crofton and then cross to Vesuvius on Salt Spring, or from Tsawwassen to Long Harbor on
Salt Spring, and then south towards Fulford Harbor. All the main roads on Salt Spring are paved.
If you do plan to drive all the way to the retreat center yourself, let me know and I will give you specific instructions to follow. Plan to travel in the daylight.
